Things I love right now...

Taking a mental break from this long work weekend, and now it's Monday again!...I decided to venture over to my favorite blog, House of Turquoise for my 4pm pick me up! Some things I love right now that really inspire me for my home decor are the following:

In my house, I definetly need one of these cozy reading nooks, if you couldn't tell from past entries...I am obsessed with reading nooks!

I am loving the way this vanity/desk area is set up. I love the silver and white picture frames mixed together and need to get some black and white images to frame.

Lastly, I need to get a little painting in my life. Love the calming waters of this photo and one that I could easily paint! Going to be adding this to my to-do list shortly!

Austin Bound!

So tomorrow morning, bright and early, I am headed to Austin for Austen and Sosa's Wedding! The wedding will be at One World Theatre and it is going to be beautiful! I can't wait to publish these photos! I have gotten so used to Los Angeles weather though, hope I don't melt!!

It's Friday!

It's Friday!!! And even so I have an event this weekend and have to work both Saturday and Sunday, I am still going to find a little time Sunday afternoon do sneak away to Malibu...and do some of this! After all, this is why I live in Southern California! Have a splendid fin de semana. What are your plans?

Goals for the remaining days of 2011

At the begining of the year I told myself that 2011 was going to be the year for me! To be honest, what I meant by that was that I would find this perfect man, to sweep me off my feet, fall in love and get married. But suddenly, I realize its mid-August and I am standing here, scratching my head and saying to myself, this guy must be lost...

So, I decided that I should not put all my focus and energy thinking about this unrealistic fantasy that may never happen. But what I CAN do is spend my days working on myself and taking steps that make ME a better person. Something that is real and attainable. So I decided to set ten short term goals for myself to attain by the end of the year. New years eve, we can reevaluate the progress I have made. Doing these things will bring 2011 must closer to the year of Lorena!

1. Do a headstand or handstand in yoga, I always am too scared to try...need to let-go of that fear and just do it.

2. Complete a half marathon (October 2011)...have done this before..can/will do it again!

3. Book events at work ...wherever that may be, not writing it on here :)

4. Take a class of some sort; painting, photography, new language, piano, at least one of the above! Challenge is to find the time, but the rewards are so worth it.

5. Read 7 new books between now and December...time to hit up Barnes and Noble!

6. Take a weekend get-away alone...to totally veg out and disconnect! I have never done this, but think I may want to try it?

7. Find an apartment/home to live in...in Los Angeles, which has proven to be quite the challenge...My taste and budget are not very good friends.

8. Make 1 new, good girlfriend in LA..its harder than you think...

9. Spend more quality time with my sisters, this should be easy!

10. Use my weekends wisely....more relaxing, hiking, biking, museums, reading...less bars, clubs, etc...

And I will begin by signing up for my 1/2 marathon! What are your goals for the rest of the year?

Accessories

I need to start accessorizing. I am amazing at shoe shopping and spotting dresses and skirts I need to purchase but accessorizing seems to fall by the wayside. Its time I head out and start purchasing some accessories! I will start by using this image as my inspiration and take control of my own destiny :). Thanks Pink Wallpaper

Craving Brownies

I am not known to be the best baker but this week I have suddenly come down with the strongest desire to bake marble brownies. So, tomorrow I am going to try my hand at this delicious recipe from Smitten Kitchen; which by the way is an AMAZING blog! Wish I could just stay home for a week and try out all these great recipes! Ingredients for this recipe is below and directions and more photos at Smitten Kitchen.

Brownie batter
1 stick (1/2 cup or 4 ounces) unsalted butter, cut into pieces
3 ounces unsweetened chocolate, chopped
1 cup sugar
2 large eggs
1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
2/3 cup all-purpose flour

Cheesecake batter
8 ounces cream cheese, well softened
1/3 cup sugar
1 large egg yolk
1/4 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

Plus
1/2 cup semisweet chocolate chips

Beach Life

Sunday afternoon was spent on the lovely private beach of Little Dume in Malibu with some friends and family. It was a perfect end to a very relaxing weekend. I am so grateful for the friends and family I have here in Los Angeles and very excited to be back! I start my new job tomorrow so today I am enjoying my last day of "free time". Hope everyone else is having a great Tuesday!

Made it to LA

So, as you have noticed I have not had the opportunity to update my blog very much. I finally made it out to California and am starting to get settled in. Moving furniture and a car cross country was NOT very pleasant at all, but I guess you must take the good with the bad. I am very excited and happy about starting a new chapter of my life, back were it all began.

I am head over heals in love with this color combo right now. Coral is the IT color at the moment. This translates beautifully into fashion, home decor and events! I love this sequin dress as well! How Cute!

Moving to California

So I am currently in the process of moving all my items from Austin, Texas to Los Angeles, California. After 7 wonderful years in Austin it is time for a new adventure. Austin will always be a special place to me and I will continue to visit friends and family in Austin and Dallas. However, I am extremely excited to start a new life back in LA, the amazing weather doesn't hurt the situation either.

What are your favorite things about LA?

Stripes!

One of my favorite personal touches to include at each place setting is to set a napkin and a special element from your wedding such as a floral, and herb or a wedding favor. Succulents, lavender sprigs, mexican cookies...all ideas I have seen done before. Make it about you!

Little Plam Island

Every year my family and I take a summer vacation. This year they chose the luxury island of Little Palm Island in the Florida Keys. This will be a first for me!
